“What’s that face about?”
She was screwing up her face like she’d just said something ridiculous.
“I just don’t know if it’s realistic,” she said.
And I didn’t hesitate.
“YES. It’s realistic.”
We’d just wrapped a session where I asked her to imagine it’s December. We’re sitting down together with a cuppa (or a glass of bubbles if it’s been a big year!) and reviewing her first year in business as a full-time coach. She started in April. It’s all still quite new. But she’s committed. She’s in.
She rattled off her three core goals and I could feel it—this bubbling excitement inside me. You know that feeling when someone else’s energy is so contagious, you can’t help but grin?
Because she wasn’t just talking about numbers. She was talking about impact. The kind that ripples out and changes lives. She wants to help young people build confidence before they hit the wild world beyond high school. She wants to support churches in understanding their strengths. She wants to walk into rooms with business owners and help them communicate better, build trust, and collaborate more deeply.
And here’s the magic:
Her goals are completely achievable.
Here’s what she’s working toward:
💰 $50,000 in revenue
👩🎓 Run a youth coaching program – 3 cohorts, 10 students each, 3 sessions
🥗 Lead lunch & learn sessions for the local Chamber – leading to 5 corporate clients
⛪ Strengths development sessions with the church – 3 engagements
🎤 Make a new, valuable contact from a conference
Now, let me be clear:
I know these goals are realistic because I’ve done it myself. And I’ve watched other brilliant coaches do the same.
But not by hoping.
Not by staring at the screen and tweaking the “About Me” page for the 27th time.
By:
- Having a plan
- Taking consistent action
- Being visible
- Leading with strengths
- And believing that they have something valuable to offer
Back Yourself. Back Your Strengths.
I know how easy it is to get stuck in that place of doubt.
“Can I really do this?”
“What if I fail?”
“Maybe I’m not ready…”
Here’s what I want to say to you—coach to coach:
You are more ready than you think.
Play to your Strengths: You’re wired for something specific. Your combination of strengths is completely unique, you know that already. Your job isn’t to be like every other coach. Your job is to be you. Fully. Unapologetically. Authentically.
- Got high Relator? Use it to build deep, trusting connections.
- High Strategic? Start mapping out the clever path no one else has spotted.
- Woo? Work that room (in person or online) and make magic.
- Learner? Use your love of knowledge to teach and guide others powerfully.
Your strengths aren’t just “nice to know”. They’re your toolkit.
They’re how you build your business. How you show up. How you create impact.
They’re your confidence compass—especially when self-doubt starts to creep in.
Don’t Hide. Don’t Wait for Perfect.
Too many coaches wait.
They wait for the branding to feel “just right”.
They wait until they’ve finished another course.
They wait until they feel like they have it all together.
But the truth is—none of that brings in the clients.
What brings in clients?
- Getting visible
- Making connections
- Following up
- Being generous
- Being clear about how you help
Yes, a nice website is great. But your website won’t start the conversation. You will.
So here’s my loving nudge (maybe a bit of a kick in the pants, if you need it):
Start now. Start small. But start.
- That newsletter you’ve been tinkering with? Send it.
- That old contact from your HR days? Message them.
- That article you thought might be helpful to your network? Post it.
- That program idea? Run a pilot with five people.
Because every step forward builds confidence.
Every action reinforces belief.
And every time you lead with your strengths, you move closer to your goals.
You’ve Got This. Truly.
If no one else has said this to you lately—let me be the one:
You are more than capable of building a thriving coaching business.
Not because you’ve got it all figured out. But because you’ve got the tools, the passion, and the strengths to make it happen.
Don’t let that face, you know the one, talk you out of your potential.
Back yourself.
Play to your strengths.
And go do the work.
